Three days and a boat
Three days cooking for five people in a house in Búzios. Vitor suggested taking lunch out to sea — and, with access to the boat blocked, reached it on a stand-up paddleboard.
The story
August 2020, the pandemic. A couple found Vitor on Instagram and asked him to cook at a house in Ferradura, in Búzios, where five people were staying. It started with a lunch, then came dinner, and Vitor stayed on for three days as the chef of the house.
Halfway through the stay, he read what no one had asked for: after months indoors, those people wanted a story to tell. He suggested taking lunch onto a boat, out to Ilha do Japonês, in Cabo Frio.
After breakfast at the house, the group headed for the boat. Access to the area was prohibited and there was no boat out to it. Vitor did not pass the problem on: with the sailors’ help, he crossed sitting on a stand-up paddleboard, carrying food, tableware and utensils. He started serving at three in the afternoon and kept going until sunset: fish roasted in banana leaf, plantain purée and spoonable brigadeiro, Brazil’s chocolate fudge.

A lunch on board until sunset, with fish in banana leaf and plantain — and an unexpected arrival by stand-up paddleboard.
